Discover Bogense's attractions, learn more about Bogense's history and find out what you shouldn't miss in Bogense! Bogense has a long history as a market town and received its privileges as a market town by King Erik Menved in 1288. Even before that time, Bogense was an active trading spot with a ferry to Klakring at Juelsminde in Jutland. In 1575, the city was destroyed by a fire disaster, and the city was not rebuilt into the same kind of trade town it used to be. The town did become the most important marketplace for the surrounding areas, there was an active marine industry at the old harbor, and the city was centrally located with a railway station and connection to Odense and Middelfart. Today, Bogense is Denmark's nicest shopping town with a well-preserved town square and many old, cozy townhouses. See more about the houses and sights on this city walk through the old part of Bogense, where we begin and end at the harbour.
