With the blue Kattegat waves on one side and green, wild coastal meadows on the other, the coastal path between Bogense and Skåstrup is the ultimate mix of wild nature and fun activities. This stretch is part of Nordfyn’s Coastal Trail, and it’s easy to follow the blue signs with the little walking figure all the way, past old dikes and sandy beaches.

Whether you start your expedition in the buzzing marina vibe at Bogense Marina or in the calm, green local park at Skåstrup, you set the pace. This is a trip made for skipping stones, taking over cool playgrounds — and stopping whenever you feel like scanning the water for seals.

ℹ️ Quick overview

  • Who: Great for everyone. The full route is 6.5 km each way — ideal for bikes or sturdy legs. Younger kids can stick to the “Pirate Trip” around the marina.
  • Time needed: 2 hours to a full day (if you want to play everywhere!).
  • Start point: Start from either end — Bogense Marina or Skåstrup Beach.
  • Pram & bike-friendly: Yes! The path is flat, car-free and easy to roll along.
  • Food tip: Stock up in Bogense. Skåstrup has loads of space and nature — but no shops or cafés. Bogense has plenty of cafés for sandwiches to pack, plus big ice creams.
  • Facilities: Public toilets at Bogense Marina and at Skåstrup Beach.

️ Pick your adventure: 2 routes in 1

‍☠️ Option 1: “The Pirate Trip” (short and fun)

Perfect if little legs get tired fast or you’re short on time. Start at Bogense Marina, where you can easily spend hours without leaving the harbour area.

  • Playground hop: Start at the small nature playground by Barfods Dam, squeeze in a quick session at the outdoor fitness area, and finish at the fun pirate playground by the marina.
  • Crab battle: Get your crab lines ready! The harbour piers are one of Nordfyn’s best spots to catch the sea’s little fighters.
  • Ice cream stop: Reward yourselves with a huge waffle cone — or grab a burger at the harbour. End with a short walk west along the old dike before racing back to the car.

⚓ Option 2: “The Coastal Expedition” (the full trip)

Pack a backpack and follow the coastal path all the way between the two places (13 km return). Because the path is flat and car-free, it’s a perfect “big ride” for kids.

  • Seal safari: Keep an eye out for small dark heads popping up in the water. Seals love to watch from the surface.
  • The dike at Fogense: Walk along the old historic dike while waves crash against the stones — a perfect break spot.
  • Goal in Skåstrup: Skåstrup Beach has a great surprise. In OSG Lokalpark you’ll find a cool outdoor fitness and activity park where kids can play while adults enjoy the view from the long bathing piers.
  • Dip in the blue: If you’ve worked up a sweat, jump in from the bathing pier in Skåstrup before heading back.

3 fun ways to do the route

1) Go stone hunting and learn to skip stones

This coastline is packed with flat stones. Who can make theirs bounce the most times?

Pick the right stone: Flat, smooth, and about the size of a cookie.
Hold it right: Pinch it between your thumb and middle finger, with your index finger along the edge.
Throw: Bend your knees so you’re close to the water. Throw it flat with a quick wrist flick. Only throw out towards the open sea!

2) Build pirate forts

Use sand, stones, sticks and seaweed to build your own beach fortress. Maybe a little shore crab will move in?

3) Nature bingo challenge

Print VisitNordfyn’s beach bingo at home (visitnordfyn.dk/naturbingo). Who’s first to spot a stone with a hole, a seagull, or a pretty seashell?

✔️ Practical info

  • Where to start: Park either at the large car park by Bogense Marina (Tygesvej) or at the car park by Skåstrup Beach.
  • Bring your backpack: Pack snacks, water and sunscreen from the start — there’s no shopping at the Skåstrup end.
  • Best break spots: Use the green meadows at Vestre Enge or the dikes at Fogense for a packed-lunch break with wide Kattegat views.
  • Swimming safety: The water is shallow and kid-friendly in many places, but the best and safest places to swim are from the bathing piers at each end of the route.
