In 2014, North Funen’s largest coastal lagoon was restored after more than 140 years of dikes and drainage. Today it’s a truly unique nature area of more than 616 hectares – perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors.

Gyldensteen Strand is a scenic and inviting area with easy access and plenty of walking routes along the paths. Enjoy the panoramic views of the coastal lagoon, Engsøen, the Kattegat and Æbelø from the bird towers, the old pumping station or the viewpoint at the converted Langø Mill.

Bringing your own lunch, coffee or cake is a great idea. You can enjoy it at the picnic tables around the area. Please note that it’s not possible to reserve seats in advance.

Combine your visit with a trip to Bogense

Drive through the Gyldensteen woods before or after your visit and see the beautiful, historic Gyldensteen Castle.

It’s also a great idea to stop by Denmark’s cosiest market town, Bogense. Wander through the narrow streets, pass the town’s charming sights, and feel the maritime atmosphere at the old harbour or marina.

There are plenty of cafés and restaurants with space for both large and small groups, where you can enjoy coffee or a good meal to fit your plans for the day.
